An excellent camera for the serious amateur or professional. Very well built, and is a solid workhorse. Coupled with a decent lens such as the 17-55 f2.8, this really does produce very sharp results.

The D300s adds video to the D300, but I've rarely used it - like all DSLRs it needs quite a lot of after-market accessories to produce decent quality video.

One nice feature is the "Quiet Mode" - I use this a lot as I shoot music gigs such as jazz and world-music. It basically slows down the mirror when you press the shutter button, so it doesn't just 'slam' back down. It makes a big difference to working in quiet locations.

My only criticism is the form factor - I'm not a fan of normal DSLRs as they don't feel balanced to me. I would always add a battery grip to make it a more balanced camera, particularly when shooting portraits.

Overall, a really nice, solid camera. Highly recommended.
